Lighthouse is much more than just a building...
We serve our community in many ways and contribute to the quality of life our participants deserve. Lighthouse offers a variety of resources, tools, and life skills to give each person who walks through our doors the opportunities for personal growth and hope for their future.
Traditional sources of funding for Lighthouse Vocational Services provide only 85% of the total operating expenses.
This is not enough to fully fund new and existing programs and services and to meet the accelerating expectations and needs of those who walk through our doors.
Founded in 1975, Lighthouse Vocational Services is a 501 (c)3 charitable organization with a mission of providing vocational services for persons with developmental disabilities. Today, we serve a total of 120 participants in-house and through remote training. This number is down almost 57 participants since COVID-19 shut Lighthouse down for over 100-days during the summer.
Lighthouse is looking for support in providing funding for new and existing programs. Below is information on how you can help!
- Our Sensory Room is a peaceful space in which individuals with auditory and visual sensitivities can find calming techniques and a quiet space to refocus on their work for the day. Established in 2019, we continue to expand the resources available in this room for our participants to be the best they can be during the day. Your support helps us provide a variety of sensory items for this purpose.
Levels of funding you can help with:
$25 – Handheld Sensory items $100 – Recliner Chair
$500 – Weighted blankets $1,500 – Sensory Panels/Lighted Wall Boxes
$5,000 – This amount will allow us to purchase all needed items to complete the Sensory Room.
- Another unique service that Lighthouse offers our community is our Private Pay Program. This program was created so that individuals who do not receive government funding can still receive the full spectrum of Lighthouse services. This, in turn, can springboard them toward further independence. It is a key part of our mission to provide affordable rates to these participants--many of whom are lower income and have experienced economic hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lighthouse is one of very few local providers that accept individuals without government funding. This fills a vital niche in our community to serve Amish and Mennonite communities, as well as others ineligible for government aid. These individuals are charged a rate that covers 30% of the actual cost of services. Lighthouse then raises funds to cover the 70% difference or “gap cost.”
Level of sponsorship you can help with:
$10,000 – Sponsor one individual for one year in our Private Pay Program.
- Lighthouse’s Art Program currently serves individuals both in-facility and through our Remote Services Program. Its purpose is to provide therapeutic art projects that help participants develop focus, calming techniques, and sensory awareness, as well as allow them to find joy through creative expression and accomplishment. Established in 2019 as part of our Adult Training Program, the Art Program continues to expand.
Level of funding you can help with:
$5,000 – A grant of $5,000 would expand our art program, enabling us to not only supply materials for current projects but also to expand our project opportunities to include large canvas painting, planting, and pottery making.
For every dollar invested in supporting Lighthouse, the programs at Lighthouse get $0.85.
Lighthouse Vocational Services must continue to grow, transform, and serve our community. To meet the challenges of today and into the future, additional financial support must be found. We thank you for your consideration!
