Book Club - Explorations and Jubilations

~ By Ingrid Mora-Smith

We have book club as a remote class 3 days per week. Along with reading a selected book for the day, participants are connecting with each other by answering questions, making jokes and learning fun facts about each other and the world.

After the reading time, the individuals make comments and talk about how to apply the story to their lives. They express their likes and dislikes and present possible solutions to different circumstances that come up in the stories we read.

One of my favorite games during reading time is when the participants are trying to guess what is next in the story before we flip the page - it is amazing how their imaginations flow!

Another highlight is when we play scavenger hunt. One day, one of the items to hunt for was a sock. Bethany S. was in such excitement that she went and pulled a sock from her brother’s foot and presented it to the group!

At the Book Club we have fun, we respect each other, and we learn new things every day.

Exercise Class - Keeping it moving!

~ By Kaitlyn Deemer

I lead two exercise classes, and both had some great highlights this week. In the first class, a new member, Bethany S., joined on Wednesday. She was very excited to see me and her coworkers. She has done a great job jumping right in.

Another participant, Greg N., has continued to use his new I-pad to communicate with me more and more. This week, he was able to use it in the middle of class to ask me a question, and another time, he asked if he could have a break and get some water. Of course, I said yes. 😊

In both of my classes, I include a Bible verse to go with the song that we are exercising to. This week the song we used was Overcomer by Mandisa. The Bible verse was James 1:2-4 which says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” It was exciting to see that the participants were willing to open up to me about what this verse means. We talked about perseverance and discussed jobs or activities that seemed hard to them in the past. However, God provided them with the wisdom and strength to overcome those struggles.

It is wonderful to witness how we are all growing through these classes.

Cooking Class: From Shore to Sheriff

~By Sharon Metzger

This week we were "playing on the beach" by making Sand Pudding. Some of the sun loving chefs even had some beach decorations to add to their dessert - and of course we were attired in our best beach wear!

Last week, our chefs went "home on the range" to make Cowboy Salsa. We all dressed in our best cowboy gear. Ben even had a sheriff's badge!
