Remote Services Update-
Lighthouse's Remote Services started in April of 2020 in response to the Covid-19 closure. In the beginning we had 40 participants take online classes while our facility was not open. We offered 10 classes with 7 instructors. In July when the facility reopened, we continued to offer online classes for anyone not returning or not returning to a full schedule. From July to November, we offered 7 different classes to 18 participants with 5 instructors. It was great to be able to have the participants stay connected to Lighthouse and their co-workers.
As we began preparing for what we anticipated could be another closure, we worked on adding additional classes and instructors. We are now able to offer 25 class options to 35 participants, and that number continues to grow daily. Our number of instructors is now 15 and continues to increase. We are grateful to have such awesome staff that are willing to help anywhere needed during this time.
One of our new classes is called "This and That." This class was designed by our staff Connie Rutter, Jessica Brooks, and Sharon Metzger and is a group that will do "a little of this and a little of that." The first class met December 14, when they made gingerbread houses, candy cane crafts and Christmas Ball ornaments (and a little of this and that along the way). We currently have 4 individuals signed up for the class but have room for 9.
Some of our other new options are Museum tours, Aquarium tours, History, Sports Talk, and Card Making. We will be offering a Zumba class 1 day a week with an instructor from Philadelphia, who will join us by Microsoft Teams. Unlike the first time we did classes, if you do not like a class, want to make a change or would like to try a new class, we are able to accommodate that thanks to our increased number of instructors.
Another change is that we have switched from the Google Hangouts online platform to Microsoft Teams. This platform allows us to show videos with audio as well as some other unique features that will improve our ability to provide good quality services.
